What Is Hydraulic Fracturing?

Sandbox Logistics is a Houston-based transportation company that specializes in proppant logistics. Using a proprietary process and special containerization, Sandbox Logistics efficiently and safely transports hazardous frac sand for companies involved in hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking.

Fracking involves pumping a highly pressurized mixture of water, proppant sand, and chemicals underground to fracture rock and release natural gas or oil. Wells used in fracking are drilled up to 10,000 feet below the surface, where sand in the mixture holds fractures open in rock formations for natural gas to flow upward from the well. 

Characterized as an unconventional technique in gas production, fracking extracts natural gas from rock formations that were once believed impossible to extract from, including shale, coal, and tight sands.
